We face many challenges in
the healthcare field of state government. We are
also loosing senators in the legislature with
nursing expertise, by term limits. With my
background in the nursing profession I will be able
to help address the challenges we face with
Medicare/Medicaid and I will work for a solution to
insure all Nebraskans. People should have access to
good medical care. Preventive healthcare such as
screening tests, immunizations, and health
counseling will help us enjoy better health overall. It is
through preventative care we will see savings for
health care expenditures. Identifying the driving
force behind increased healthcare costs and
implementing a good plan to bring about a resolve
will be my goal.
Other healthcare issues I will keep a close eye on
will be the threat of pandemic flu, childhood
obesity, mental health, alcohol/substance abuse and
the technological record keeping of information on
adult and childhood immunizations. Medical
information should be shared by all physicians,
pharmacies, hospitals and clinics electronically. By
implementing a secure electronic medical record
keeping system in the state we could save dollars by
eliminating duplication of care and medications.
