My Stance: Public Safety

Law Enforcement Officers

Everyday police don their uniforms and risk their lives for our protection. They are partners in our community and the protectors of our neighborhoods, schools, families and businesses. With the ever increasing dangers police officers are faced with, they serve with absolute dedication, bravery and honor.

The responsibilities of maintaining law and order is becoming more entailed with the hazards and threats for our officers of peace. We must ensure they have all the equipment and enhanced training and education they need to fulfill their duties, while keeping themselves safe. We must also not forget to make sure they have the emotional support they and their families deserve for serving in an increasingly challenging work environment.

Just as I support the military support system for fallen or disabled soldiers the “Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund”, I believe we need a fund of this kind for fallen and disabled officers’ children. We need to honor the bravery and dedication exhibited by officers’ families when they share their loved ones with us to protect us.

As a sister of a former State Patrolman, an Aunt of a Police Officer, I know what sacrifices Police Officers have to make to fulfill their duties. I hold all Police Officers in the highest regard. We should honor the men and women who protect us every day and preserve our way of life.

Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians

We applaud the brave men and women that have chosen to protect us from loss of life or property when faced with dangerous situations. From responding to car accidents to containing a burning home our firefighters are steadfast working closely with other emergency response teams and police departments. They teach our children about fire safety prevention programs. Firefighters may experience physical, emotional/mental drain, missed meals, lost sleep and forgone social activities all in the realm of service to keep us safe.

Safety of our firefighters should be our ultimate concern. Adequate staffing of Firefighters and EMS personnel helps retention, safety and morale in the firefighter/EMS service. Developing 4 firefighters per team standard referred to a “Two-in, Two-out” system, wearing a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, supports safe conditions of their occupation. Safety of the firefighters, while providing service to our communities, should be a priority.
